The very long anticipated Oppo BDP-83 and new Special Edition Universal Player is here! After countless weeks of the "early adoption program, a.k.a. beta
testing..." the bugs have been worked out by very careful audio and videophile end users to ensure the best glitch free performance from the start. This is
unheard of in the consumer audio/video industry as all the manufacturers rush out their "incomplete" products to make their sales....not with OPPO!!! We have
to really congratulate them on this one!!! The BDP-83 is $499 + shipping (but $500 from us, or $900 for SE model) and utilizes the optimum Anchor Bay VRS
video processing circuitry for stellar upconverting standard definition DVD playback performance and unbelievable 1080P High Definition Blu-Ray Playback.
Even more interesting is Oppo has designed this unit to be a serious 2ch and Multichannel contender out of the gate with using the flagship Crystal DAC chip
(which is our ultimate favorite) and tweaking out the audio DSP for the best sound. The SE model has the new ESS 32bit dac chip which is getting alot of rave
reviews. The obvious short comings in this player is its power supply, clocking and analog output stage parts, like with just about every other stock player on the
market. No matter how you intend to use this stellar player in your system, we have you covered with the most sophisticated and complete modifications and

Premium Full Player Modification/Rebuild Package Descriptions-
Upgraded IEC Connector for better grip onto power cords-
We add a high quality 3-prong IEC connector that is cryo-treated to the rear of the chassis for use with high performance aftermarket
power cords. The reason is the stock connector doesn't grab and bite onto some power cables that well and they can fall out, this
upgrade will ensure a tighter fit. The cryo'ed IEC offers better connection characteristics over the stock IEC, no doubt!
NOTE: We highly recommend using an aftermarket power cord for improved sound and video, it truly deserves it.
Ultra Low impedance Rubycon/Panasonic capacitor replacements-
We replace an abundance of Switch Mode Power Supply and DSP/Analog board voltage rail decoupling capacitors in all critical areas of
the player to the ultra low impedance Rubycon and Panasonic capacitors! These will entirely outlast the stock capacitors longevity as
well for better performance even after many years of use! In addition, we replace the SMPS reservoir/smoothing caps with a ultra low
impedance and higher value capacitor to drastically reduce noise even further! Very Nice improvement! A HUGE change in total sonic
tonality and character and as well as providing the video section with substantially less noise for cleaner output. The stock capacitors
are very poor in comparison of the factors of impedance and ripple current & will not let you realize the full potential of this unit!
Ultra High Speed Diode Bridge-
We replace the stock noisy/glary/grainy rectifiers with very low impedance ultra fast rectifiers. These are absolute superior to the stock
diodes rectifiers, removing the glare, grain and grit from the sound and video and allowing you to realize a much cleaner audio and
video performance! !
DEXA UWB (Ultra Wide Bandwidth) Ultra Low Noise Voltage Regulators-
The UWB Regulator is a high end replacement to the stock (cheap) voltage regulators used to regulate DC voltage in the Oppo.
Unfortunately the OEM regulators have very poor noise performance. Especially if there are external noise sources around the OEM
regulators, like ripple or load fluctuations. In comparison to all the OEM regulators, the UWB's have more than 100 times better ripple
rejection, 10 times lower noise, and no line and load regulation error. The result is a drastic improvement across the entire spectrum
and more dynamic range.
NewClassD DEXA D-Clock Reference Precision Clocking upgrade-
The OEM Oppo master clock is a basic pierce oscillator which feeds directly into the ASIC (DSP) chip that controls all aspects of audio
and video processing and transport control . Phase noise and power supply injected noise here is high affecting all audio and video
formats with "jitter". The D-Clock clock has an extremely low phase noise oscillator and dramatically improves all areas of audio and
video playback. The ultra-low jitter and noise performance of the D-Clock clock immediately releases impressive sound quality from the
Oppo BDP-83/SE & shifts the players tonality to remove hardness & harshness; the overall frequency range is more natural and
unforced. Lower frequencies on Blu-RayCD/SACD/DVD playback have greater impact, weight and control. Greater dimension is added
to music and movies, vocals and instruments having improved spatial qualities with a more solid, palpable feel. Video also looks cleaner.
The DEXA clock has a very unique function of isolating the clock signal ground to the power supply ground, so there is no ground loop,
and also there is no Mains Noise injection for the cleanest clock signal possible.
2ch Analog Output Stage Rebuild using Ultra High Performance Audio Signal Coupling Transformers-
We completely delete the OEM Analog Output stage after the flagship Crystal DAC Chip or ESS DAC chip (all capacitors, analog
filtering, etc) in favor of a set of Ultra High Performance Audio Signal Coupling Transformers, bypassing ALL of the stock circuitry. The
stock 2ch BDP-83/SE output stage is mediocre in build and just "ok" in sound quality. However, there are MANY ACTIVE parts in the
signal path, such as cheap 5532 op-amps for example . There are also many resistors in the signal path as well. This is not the most
optimal topology for signal coupling and HF filtering.
Our approach is purist and instantly effective:
Completely disconnect the analog output stage, and replace it with a set of high performance audio signal coupling transformers! Now
with the transformers we can now effectively and inherently provide galvanic isolation from other components in your system. The
transformer stops High Frequency noises that occur from other components in your system. This also provide a means of connecting
the output via XLR (optional upgrade), to acheive a true 100% balanced output!!! The noise floor in your music drops to a complete
dark and black level. More detail comes out of the music. The soundstage appears much larger, wider deeper with a bold lifelike stance.
Our approach is considered "state of the art" and this mod will easily alone take the performance of this unit alone to a level that is
unattainable by most. Output voltage is about 5vrms!

We add a set of very high quality WBT Nextgen RCA jacks for the 2ch output section to vastly improve the signal integrity over the stock
jacks!! These jacks have very little contact surface, for the least amount of eddy current distortions for the best sound. These are wired
via ASi custom silver wire and cotton tubing from the optimized 2ch transformer output section.
Internal Damping-
Apply special damping material to specific areas to minimalize the amount of internal vibrations and ringing. This includes damping to
certain critical parts and to the TRANSPORT MECHANISM as well.
EMI/RFI Supression-
Add special EMI/RFI reducing material to certain careful areas to remove local occurring distortions from the SMPS and other circuits to
ensure the lowest amount of noise possible for even more enhanced audio and video properties!
E-A-R Specialty Composites Vibration Isolation Feet-
E-A-R Specialty Composites is a leading manufacturer in the high performance vibration isolation and damping material industry. We
add 4 of their vibration isolation feet in specific areas on the underside of the Oppo unit. This gives the unit a much more stable stance
as well as controlling vibrations at certain critical points to enhance the performance of the unit in a whole.

ASi custom handmade exotic Ultra High Speed Diode Rectifiers-
We replace the stock noisy/glary/grainy rectifiers with the incredible ASi custom handmade exotic diode bridge, which features
extremely low impedance and silver wire connections. They are also thermal treated for better performance. These are absolute
superior to all diode rectifiers we have tried, completely removing the glare, grain and grit from the sound and video and allowing you to
realize a much cleaner audio and video performance! !
Jensen 4-pole exotic switch mode power supply capacitor-
We install an exotic Jensen 4-pole Electrolytic capacitor in the power supply to replace the stock smoothing caps. This exotic capacitor
is wired into circuit with ASi custom wire. This capacitor has an unique ability of reducing power supply distortion drastically while at the
same time remaining very fast and natural. Such a clear and audible improvement delivering more resolution, texture, dynamics, and
liveliness. Video improves as well with more vibrant colors/etc.

Just a quick note on the break-in and the sound. I am about at 200 hours on the break-in and it keeps on improving, getting more open
and spacious. The soundstage is so large and so big that I am just floored. Details are so lifelike, and very delicate sounding and the
bass is coming through with tightness and plenty of depth. This player is a bass monster! This is the very best player I have ever heard,
period! Doug you have really amazed me at the complete transformation of sound! Thanks so much! BTW,I got the premium full mod
done to my oppo and the video improved as well but I am a audio buff. Thanks, Mark W.

Thanks for offering the mods before the group buy purchase program. I just wanted to send you this note that have my blessings to put
on your site now that my unit is fully burned in. ASi had previously supplied me with a fully modified oppo dv-983h player (which is
spectacular!) from last years group buy offering. I was not prepared for the improvements in the new bdp-83! Doug modified my bdp-83
with the statement full upgrade and I can honestly say I have never heard a player in my life that sounds like this (i have heard many,
such as esoterics, linn and audio aero, either in audition or brought over from friends). As good as the dv-983h is/was, this new player is
night and day better. (just like he told me it would be, based on better dac chip and transformer technology). I am hearing deeper into
the music with small artifacts not previously heard (rediscovery of my old music? yup!). The output is very dynamic, big and bold,
resolute and extremely transparent from the stereo outputs (diana krall temptation is staggering), world music sounds so organic!
Thanks so much for your fast service and incredible sounding blue ray player. (the high def disc look better too). You need to have a
reviewer or two hear this incredible player, they will be wowed. I will be having other parts of my system upgraded by asi very soon to get

connect to either a dedicated stereo or a multi-channel surround system. For customers who primarily use the HDMI output to connect to an A/V receiver or
directly to a TV/projector, and for customers who primarily use the digital optical/coaxial audio output, the standard BDP-83 is recommended.

Here is the region free mod instructions:
~When you connect a power cord to the back of the oppo, you will hear a small beep coming from the inside, this is normal.
~To switch to a different zone, for Blu-Ray, press and hold the remotes BLUE button for around 5 seconds until you hear beeps, press 2 for zone B (you will
hear 2 beeps), or press 3 for Zone C (3 beeps) or to revert to Zone A, press 1 (you will hear 1 beep).
~To switch to region free for DVD playback, press and hold the remotes RED button for about 5 seconds until you hear beeps, press the 0 button (you will

Good morning Doug, I wanted to give you some feedback on the oppo blue-ray you did for me that you can put
up online if you wish. Doug installed his statement full monty modification into my oppo which I use for mainly
music and some good blue-ray movies. The audio performance is top rate. Excellent imaging, excellent top to
bottom coherency. You guys really know how to make a player sound like a live event. Bravo! You have my
highest recommendation. I would leave you feedback on audiogon but forget those ridiculous fees they now
